The 8th Annual Empower the User Confernece: LIVE

Welcome to this year’s live streaming blog of the eighth annual Empower the User Conference sponsored exclusively by KTL Solutions.  This year we have one of the most exciting lineups of presenters to date.  Amy Kennan of MyAppsAnywhere, Randy Chung of OfficePro, Doug Johnson of Acumatica, and Nills Rasmusen of Solver are just some of the many presenters at this year’s event.  Let’s not forget GP Fully Loaded delivered by the President and CEO of KTL Solutions, Timothy Lally, and a special guest from Microsoft, Mr. Steve Demming. Keep checking back as we bring you updates on presentations, pictures of the event, and some thoughts from our many attendees at this year’s Empower the User Conference.

9:30 AM – Key Note Address: Steve Demming, Microsoft

This year, our Keynote speaker was none other than Microsoft’s own Steve Demming. Steve brought so much enthusiasm and passion to this year’s Keynote speech that everyone, including myself, has reached a new level of excitement for what is to come next.  This year’s Keynote speech really helped to emphasize the point of what this event is truly about: education and efficiency. The speech highlighted the need to give users the tools to work in a more efficient way to maximize results.  If this is how we start, I cannot wait to see what is next.

This year’s first set of sessions kicked off with a favorite of many attendees at every user conference, Tim Lally presenting the New Features of GP 2013. The formerly titled, GP Fully Loaded, has become a conference cornerstone where the President of KTL Solutions presents the latest in the world of GP 2013 from the past year.  He makes it fun and engaging while also bringing attention to the less heralded features that can help users work more efficiently and productively.

Randy Chung helped everyone get a better understanding of Microsoft Excel in the new Office 2013.  He highlighted two specific features in his session, Pivot Tables and Flash Fill.

Microsoft’s own Steve Demming brought the same enthusiasm as he brought to this year’s Keynote speech, as he did to his second event speech. In his session, he highlighted differences between Citrix (XenAPP), Microsoft (Hyper V), and VM Ware (Vsphere) and also gave users a look at all three.

KTL Solutions, like many other companies, has embraced the exploding world of social networking; however, while most people want to jump in to social networking, not many know how their current systems can integrate with platforms such as Facebook. Randy Chung of Office Pro helps with that by taking a look inside your Office 2013 products and how it is heavily positioned for the cloud, mobile devices and touchscreens while also being tightly integrated with online services like Facebook, Flickr, SkyDrive and YouTube. He also demonstrates how this product is capable of interacting with SharePoint and/or SkyDrive for cloud-based storage.

Traditional CRM was defined as a strategy and philosophy that was based on how to manage customers using tools, processes and systems to both understand who your customer was and at the same time, provide your business with ways of identifying the life cycle of those customers. What most people don’t know is that CRM can be developed into much more that a sales tool.

Cloud ERP software can improve your business by providing an integrated set of business software applications to automate processes throughout your entire organization at a lower cost than traditional solutions. No one understands that more than Doug Johnson of Acumatica, in his session, he shows you how the cloud can be embraced to help speed up efficiency and reliability in the ERP world.

Most of the time, when working in Excel, your priority is data. Getting data in and getting data out.  However, what is the point of getting the data in if someone is not able to understand what the data represents? Randy Chung dives in and explains how to make your charts and data look even better by recommending the best chart type to effectively read your data.  Recommended charts also suggest visual options like title or legend placement.  The new feature, Quick Preview, allows you to see how the chart will look before accepting the recommendations.

Are you still on the fence about the cloud?  Confused on what exactly the cloud means to you and your business?  Aimee Keenan helps us understand the five ways to keep your information in the cloud, how cloud storage works, and what cloud computing is all about.

BI360 from Solver is a product that needs no introduction because the track record of continued success and excellence speaks for itself.  However, with the newest release, many new features can help your day-to-day workflow. Nills Rasmussen helps you understand the features and benefits of the newest release of BI360.

SharePoint 2013 is the new way to work together. A simplified user experience helps you organize, sync and share all your content. New social capabilities make it easy to share ideas, keep track of what your colleagues are working on, and discover experts you never knew existed.

Did you know that you have access to a tool that will interactively display Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services reports that contain data from your Microsoft Dynamics GP2010 reports? Did you know that you can use this tool right now without any additional registration?  This tool is available within the navigation lists inside GP2010 R2 and also available as an external client that does not rely on the Dynamics GP application.

Are you manually entering or importing data from one system to another? Find out how other companies are improving efficiency and reducing errors with automated integrations between their financial and line of business applications. You may be surprised at how easy the process can be.

There are 5 cool things you can do with Power Pivot for Excel!  Power Pivot for Excel is an add-on for Excel 2010 and is a free download from Microsoft. It allows users to conduct powerful business intelligence (BI) in an environment that is familiar as well as works with extremely large data sets.  Before Power Pivot, this kind of analysis was limited to enterprise BI tools such as SAS and Business Objects.
