Leverage Your GP Reports Outside of GP!

Did you know that Microsoft Dynamics GP comes with around 260 SQL reports ready to be used? These reports can be used right out of the box and they don’t require any modifications. Imagine if you could make these reports available to non-GP users; just put them on your company’s internal website; or build an iframe in CRM and display GP data inside CRM. Well, you can do all of this and more if you manage to get these reports out of GP. The way to do this is to deploy them to SQL Server Reporting Services.

How to deploy Microsoft Dynamics GP reports to SSRS?

GP Reports can be deployed to SSRS at the time of installation of GP or it can also be done later. Launch GP and open Reporting Tools set up window (Go to Tools-> Set up> System -> Reporting Tools set up). We are going to pick Report Server Mode as ‘Native’. Report server URL and Report Manager URL information is available in Reporting Services Configuration Manager on the server where Reporting Services is installed. In this example, we have picked to deploy only SSRS reports and also selected the option for redeploying. As soon as we hit deploy, we will be presented with the error below, which can be easily fixed.

To fix this error, we need to hop on to the Reporting Services server and locate the web.config located under ‘C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSRS12.MSSQLSERVERReporting ServicesReportServer’ and edit it in notepad.

Locate the text and add text.

Save the changes and try the deployment again.

After successful deployment, when you browse to the Reporting Services Report manager, you will see new folders formed for each Company and Multi Company. All the SQL reports are now available outside of GP

Once deployed, they can be used in websites, inside a frame in CRM, or just run on the SSRS server using reporting manager. It’s easy and simple!
