How to Add a ‘GO TO’ to a Custom Smartlist

When you open a SmartList and double-click on a line item Great Plains will take you to the transaction screen that is associated with that specific line item.  This is a functionality within SmartList called a “GoTo”.  This function works for all standard GP SmartLists.  You can also click on the GoTo symbol in the upper right-hand corner of the SmartList window.

When you create a custom SmartList this Go To functionality is not automatically created – but it may be added.

To add this functionality – Go to SmartList Builder (Microsoft Dynamics GP >> Tools >> SmartList Builder >> SmartList Builder).  This will open the SmartList Builder Window.  Select the Custom SmartList where you want to add the GoTo functionality.

Click the button – This will open the Go To window.

Click the button to view the drop down list of Go To’s that may be created.

The most commonly used Go To is Open Form – that is the one we will focus on.  Click on Open Form – this opens the Add Go To – Open Form window.

Enter a Description for the Go To that you want to set up – Customer Go To Test.

Select the Product from the drop down list – Microsoft Dynamics GP

Select the Series from the drop down list – Sales

Select the Form from the drop down list – Customer Maintenance

Click to add a task.  A task will pass the required information from the SmartList so the correct record will open.  This will open the Add a Task window.

Select the Task Type from the drop down list – Set the value of a field and run the field script

Select the Field from the drop down list – Customer Number

Select the Table from the drop down list – RM Open File

Select the Value from the drop down list – Customer Number

Click  – the task is added to the Add Go To – Open Form window

Click  – the Go To is added to the GO TO window.

Click OK – this takes you back to the SmartList Builder window.  Click  to save the changes to the Custom SmartList.

Open Smartlist (Microsoft Dynamics GP >> SmartList).  Open the Series and the Smartlist that had the Go To added (Sales >> Go To Test >> *).  Highlight the selected customer.

Click  in the upper right hand corner – select the GO TO that was created from the drop down list (GO TO Test).  This opens the Customer Maintenance window and automatically populates the window with the information from the Customer selected in the Smartlist.
You can now begin creating and adding Go To’s to your own custom SmartLists.
