Windows 10 End of Support and Next Steps

Written By Abe Hammat

Windows 10 End of Support is approaching quickly, and organizations need to prepare now. Microsoft will officially end support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025, which means the operating system will no longer receive security updates, patches, or new features. This change brings both risks and opportunities, depending on how soon you plan your upgrade.

Why Windows 10 End of Support Matters

Once support ends, new security vulnerabilities discovered in Windows 10 will remain unpatched. This makes systems easy targets for cybercriminals. Additionally, software developers will gradually stop creating and updating applications for Windows 10, which can disrupt workflows and compatibility across your organization.

Remaining on an unsupported system may work short term. However, the long-term risks—ranging from cyberattacks to compliance challenges—make delaying an upgrade unsafe.

Benefits of Upgrading to Windows 11

Upgrading from Windows 10 to Windows 11 offers important improvements. The most significant upgrade is stronger security. Windows 11 requires modern hardware features that were optional in Windows 10. One of these requirements is TPM 2.0, a Trusted Platform Module that provides hardware-based protection. This reduces the risk of password theft, phishing attacks, and unauthorized access.

Windows 11 also offers a cleaner, modern interface that improves usability. For example, the Widgets panel provides personalized updates including weather, traffic, sports, and news, all accessible from the taskbar.

If your organization uses Microsoft 365, Windows 11 integrates Microsoft Copilot directly into the taskbar. With the proper Copilot license, users can receive AI assistance across Microsoft 365 apps, improving productivity and efficiency.

Preparing Your Organization for the Transition

While the end of Windows 10 support may feel overwhelming, it also presents an opportunity. Upgrading to Windows 11 ensures your organization benefits from better security, improved productivity tools, and long-term support.

If you need guidance on upgrading devices, deployment planning, or licensing, refer to your IT service provider or your organization’s internal IT documentation.
