Microsoft Dynamics GP Resource Descriptions

Finding information on the Tables, Fields, and Windows Microsoft Dynamics GP utilizes can be a daunting task when creating Integration, Reports, and other customizations. Microsoft has included the Resource Description feature to assist with this endeavor. This feature allows the user to find the required tables, fields, and windows, providing detailed information on the field formats, table linkage, and much more.

To utilize Microsoft Dynamics GP Resource Descriptions:

  • Select Microsoft Dynamics GP from the menu
  • Select Tools
  • Select Resource Description
  • Select the type of resource you would like information about: Table, Fields, and Windows

Tables – Allows the user to view table information and definitions by module

  • Select the button with the three dots

  • Choose the Product from the Product dropdown that the table is used by (Microsoft Dynamics GP is the default)
  • Select the Series that the table is used in (ie. Financial, Sales, Purchasing, Inventory, Payroll, Project, System, Company, etc.)
  • Select how you would like to sort the table information with the View By option
    • By Table Display Name – Table display Name
    • By Table Group Technical Name – Microsoft grouping based on function
    • By Table Physical Name – Actual table name on the SQL server (most popular option)
    • By Table Technical Name – Summarized Table display Name
  • Print Button – Print Report of table information based on information selected
  • Find Button – Allows the user to search by the same sort options above
  • Select the table you would like information about by double clicking the table
    • Additional Info Button – Provides linkage information and relationships to other tables if they exist
    • Usage Button – Provides the Forms and Reports in GP that utilize the selected table
    • Print Button – Prints the table definition information
    • Field Info Button – Provides detailed information on a select field, such as format, length, currency option, string options, etc.

Fields – Allows the user to view field information, such as what tables contain the field and field format

  • Choose the Product form the Product dropdown that the table is used by (Microsoft Dynamics GP is the default)
  • Select the Core or module that the field is used in (ie. Financial, Sales, Purchasing, Inventory, Payroll, Project, System, Company, etc.)
  • Locate and select the field to get information about to display the Tables that contain this field
  • Field Info Button – Provides detailed information on a select field, such as format, length, currency option, string options, etc.

Windows – Allows the user to view Form information about particular windows, such as tables utilized and Fields on the form

  • Choose the Product form the Product dropdown that the table is used by (Microsoft Dynamics GP is the default)
  • Select the Series that the table is used in (ie. Financial, Sales, Purchasing, Inventory, Payroll, Project, System, Company, etc.)
  • Select how you would like to sort the table information with the View By option
    • By Form Name – Form Name
    • By Window Display Name – Form Display name
    • By Windows Technical Name– Actual Form name in Dynamics GP
  • Print Button – Print Report of Form information based on information selected
  • Find Button – Allows the user to search by the same sort options above
