How to Create a Flow with Dynamics 365

Today I would like us to go through a “How To” of creating a flow with Dynamics 365. If you have purchased a license for any of the Dynamics 365 plans or apps, then you will find that the license for Microsoft Flow is also included with it. You can navigate to flow.microsoft.com and click on Connectors in the top menu section.

You can also search for pre-existing templates created for Dynamics 365 and any specific service that you would like to integrate. We are going to navigate to ‘Connectors’ and narrow down our search to only the Dynamics 365 connector which will display all the pre-existing templates for Dynamics 365. Currently, there are 34 pre-existing templates. Today, we are going to use the template to create ‘Dynamics Leads based on Tweets.’

Flow templates

I am going to sign in to Twitter using my personal login, but ideally, this would be your corporate Twitter account. If you are already signed into Office 365, then it would recognize your Dynamics 365 app login, or you can switch to another account. The next step allows you to define the search terms within a tweet that would be captured to create the lead record in Dynamics CRM. You can provide search terms that include a Twitter hashtag, for example:

The above settings would capture tweets that match the search criteria and get the user information from Twitter to then create the lead record in Dynamics 365. You also get options to add dynamic content from the source (in this case Twitter tweet) and update the fields on the lead record. Once saved the flow is viewable under My flows section, and you can see the run history, log, failures, and the owner information all within the flow setup. Depending on your Flow plan, the checks for new data are performed. More information can be found here: https://flow.microsoft.com/en-us/pricing/

The ‘Run History’ in Flow gives you detailed information on success, failures, and checks with no data returned, etc. Flow management gives you complete control to review Flow authors, credentials, history, and an easy way to turn Flow on or off.

Hope this helps as a good start in creating your own business flows for your automation needs. If you have questions, don’t hesitate on contacting us through email (info@ktlsolutions.com) or by calling our main line at 301-360-0001.
